Ms. Brooks concentrates her practice in the area of employment and labor law, representing employees. She is dedicated to protecting employee rights against unlawful discrimination and/or retaliation under federal, state, and local law. She handles unlawful discrimination claims involving:
- Employer hiring practices
- Job performance evaluations
- Denial of promotions and/or transfers
- Employee benefits
- Denial of leaves of absence or reasonable job accommodations on account of employee disability
- Employee discipline
- Workplace grievances
- Whistleblower retaliation
- Termination of employment
Ms. Brooks has transactional expertise representing employees in the negotiation of employment agreements, as well as independent consulting, partnership, incentive compensation, nondisclosure, confidentiality, no solicitation and non-competition agreements, severance agreements, and separation packages. She also is an employment mediator for the private sector since December 2004 and renders pre-litigation alternative conflict resolution services and advice to employees and employers.
Ms. Brooks is a member of the bar of the State of New York and is admitted to practice in the New York Appellate Division, Second Department. In 2005, she obtained a certificate in mediation at the Harvard Law School Program on Negotiation . Since 2004, Ms. Brooks has been a member of the Center for Mediation in Law. She is also a member of the National Employment Lawyers Association and the Labor & Employment Section of the New York State Bar Association.
