Nursing home abuse is a serious crime.  For the victim, it can be a terrifying situation. The people who should be caring for your loved one could be hurting or taking advantage of him or her. If this kind of abuse is occurring, your family needs to step in and file a claim.

The New York Nursing Home Abuse Increase Has Been Documented

According to a study that was performed in the Annals of Internal Medicine, researchers found that there were hundreds of situations involving resident-on-resident mistreatment that hadn't been recorded by staff members at the nursing facilities.A series of investigative reports by the news agency City & State also showed that there was a rise in nursing home abuse and neglect in New York. The abuse included things such as death threats, unwanted touching, or violent patients.Over the course of a month, a study found that over 20 percent of nursing home residents had been mistreated by other residents. Over 28 percent of the instances were physical in nature, and 27 incidents were sexual.Residents also suffered verbal abuse, with 16 percent being victimized, while 5.7 percent of those in the study had been physically mistreated. Since these numbers are just from a single month, the actual number of people who suffer these situations could be much higher at the end of the year.
